A BRIEF HISTORY

The dog is part of a family of similar animals that include wolves, coyotes, foxes, jackals, and wild
hunting dogs such as the Dingo and African Wild Hunting Dog, who all share common characteristics.
Many of these wild dogs have been claimed to be the domestic dog's wild ancestor but the exact origins
of the dog and domestication histroy of the dog are uncertain.

CONSIDERING A DOG?

First thing is first, dogs are a big responsibility. They required much attention,
food and water, exercise, training, etc. Bieng a responsible dog owner mean being the best
owner/caregiver to your dog that you can be. Much more than "food, water, and shelter", you have to
realize that a pet is for LIFE, and dedicating yourself to the life of your dog. When you adopt,
you are providing your dog with a family and a home, not just food and shelter. Dogs are
very social, and isolation from the family can result in an unhappy, and ultimately unhealthy dog.

TOP ESSENTIALS FOR CARING FOR YOUR FURRY FRIEND

  • Outfit oyur dog with a collar and ID tag that includes your name, address, and phone number. there is always
a chance your pet could wonder off or get lost and the ID tag increases the chances of your pet to be found.

  • Get your dog vaccinated for rabies. This can be done at your local vet.

  • OFF property, ON leash! Even a dog with ID tag and shots should not be allowed to roam outside of your home or fenced yard.

  • Give your dog proper shelter. A fenced yard with a dog house is a big plus, especially for big, active dogs. However, dogs need and crave companionship and should spent a lot of their time with their family.

  • Take your dog to the vet for regular check-ups.

  • Spay or nueter your dog. Dogs who have this surgery tend to live longer, be healthier, and have fewer behavior problems. In doing this, you are also reducing the problem of pet overpopulation.

  • Give your pooch a balanced diet with constant access to fresh water.

  • Enroll your dog in a training class. Positive training will allow you to control your companion's behavior safely and humanly.

  • Give your dog some good quality exercise. Most owners find that playing with their canine companion, along with walking him twice a day, provides sufficient exercise.

    BENEFITS OF OWNING A DOG

There are endless benefits of owning your own dog. Dogs can be very beneficial to your health and well being. This ranges from pet dogs to therapy dogs, all helping to improve health by just being around. Having a dog has also, believe it or not, been shown to lower blood pressure simply by petting your dog. Pets can also reduce stress and improve your mood. For the people who own pets, it's virtually impossible to stay in a bad mood when a pair of loving puppy eyes meet yours and they come to sit right next to you(or on you!). Dogs are very loyal and faithful. They provide unconditional love and can be there for you in ways that people can't. They offer love and companionship, and can also enjoy comfortable silences, keep secrets and are excellent snugglers. Dogs are the best antidote to loneliness.

    SHOW SOME LOVE!

Make sure to give your dog lots of love and kindness. They are such sweet animals and they love attention. Today there are more and more crimes of people that were cruel to animals...mainly dogs. A crime well known right now is dog fighting. Some people are beginning to use the pit bull breeds to fight each other. It hurts to know that people will actually breed dogs to fight other dogs. The tragic fact is the dogs that are bred to fight will continue to attack, regardless of the submission signals of an opponent. Also, these dogs will continue to fight even though badly injured. Other cases of animal cruelty are usually dogs that are abandoned without food or water, an awful living environment, and/or physical abuse from the owner. Dogs aren't just our pets, they are also part of the family. If you are considering a dog, make sure that you are willing to give your dog lots of love and attention, similar to that you
    would give your own child.
