Optometrists provide primary vision care. They are known as Doctors of Optometry.
Optometrists diagnose people's eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases.
The things they test for when examining patients are visual acuity, depth and color
perception, ability to focus, and coordinate the eyes properly. Optometrists are
licensed to prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses for vision problems
and drugs to treat some eye diseases. They also provide vision therapy and low-vision
rehabilitation. Optometrist often provide preoperative and postoperative care to cataract
patients and patients who have had laser vision correction or other eye surgery.Ophthalmologists
usually perform the operation of the patients. Sometimes optometrist diagnose systemic diseases
like diabetes and high blood pressure and refer the patient to other health practitioners
as needed.
