Gypsy Red Tribe

The art of Bellydancing is one that has been around for ages and ages. The ancient Egyptians and Persians participated in this form of dance as well as many other cultures. Originally the dance was performed by women for women. It was not meant for men's eyes. Recently with the aid of groups such as the Bellydance Superstars, it has steadily been gaining more and more popularity. Local groups have been gaining a higher level of support from their own community.

There are many styles and costumes associated with belly dancing. These range from Tribal Fusion to Cabaret to American Tribal. One thing that every style has in common is, they all focus on muscle movement fluidity, isolation, and beauty. Many call this form of dance empowering to women because it seems more suited to a woman's natural rhythm and body. What many do not know is that there a few men who perform this type of dancing. Granted, they are not mainstream nor very socially accepted among Western culture. But they do exist. Regardless, the art of belly dancing is breaching barriers and becoming more and more mainstream. You probably could find a belly dance performance, either restaurant or one of a grander scale such as The Belly Dance Superstars, fairly close, if not in, your hometown.
